Kinds of Aisles
Lift trucks are classified due to the types of aisles they have been designed to work in. Wide Aisle and Narrow Aisle lift trucks are designed to turn in the aisle, whereas Very Narrow Aisle trucks actually don't turn in the aisle. There are certain aisle widths to take into consideration with various models.
VNA or Very Narrow Aisle trucks work in less than 6 feet areas and often use particular guidance systems like rail, wire or optical systems in order to travel in the aisles. Several different models of VNA trucks comprise Turret Trucks, Swing Masts and Order Selectors. These are popular models in compact retail areas and in some warehouse and storage situations.
Narrow Aisle or NA trucks can operate within aisles which are 8 feet to 10 feet. Normally these are stand-up models such as Reach Trucks. They are usually used in warehouses and storage facilities.
The wide aisle forklift is designed to work in aisles more than 8 feet to 10 feet.
Stand-Up Ergonomics
The "Ergomat" padding on stand-up models offer padding on a sloped floorboard. These features are designed to reduce operator fatigue by absorbing vibration. The compartment for the operator is big and has an 8" low step height which helps lessen overall body fatigue by easing frequent entry and exit. The model includes polyurethane steer tires to absorb shocks and vibration caused by uneven floor in order to enable smooth traveling. For added comfort, there is a cushioned armrest and floor mat as well as a backrest designed to help keep operators comfortable and hence more effective while limiting exhaustion.
