Caterpillar Pneumatic Tire Forklifts Portland

Caterpillar Pneumatic Tire Forklifts Portland

Use a Pneumatic Forklift

Pneumatic forklifts are common in warehouse and shipping operations. Also called pump trucks or pallet trucks, they are used to move supplies and things around on wooden pallets using metal forks which are mounted on a wheeled counterweight. The counterweight contains a pump that raises the forks off the ground. A pallet truck is designed to be operated by one individual.

Pallet trucks must be operated with care in order to prevent loss of control while raising heavy loads. Equipment should be checked prior to operating. Clear the wheels area of any obstructions. Make sure that the handle turns smoothly. The pallet must be carefully stacked in order to ensure that nothing will fall off during transportation.

On the end of the pallet truck's handle, squeeze the level found on the inside of the metal loop to lower the forks and release the air in the pump. The forks can then be pushed into the slots of the pallet. The forks must be at the center to be able to guarantee equal distribution of the pallet's weight across them. Lift the forks from the ground by pumping the handle of the pneumatic lift until the pallet has cleared the ground completely. Do not raise the pallet too high or the forklift can unbalance.

Move the pallet by pulling on the handle and dragging it behind you. It is dangerous to push the pallet in front of you as the thrust could cause it to lose control. Slowly take turns and don't attempt to stop abruptly. Slowly stop, squeeze the lever, and the forks would lower to the ground. Finally, remove the forks from the pallet by pulling them out. Return the pallet truck to its permanent location.
